What began as an investigation into the world of mobile gaming evolved into an analysis of the gaming industry. Shovelaware is an initiative to educate more people about game design practices in the mobile industry. It was inspired by my interest as a passionate gamer who had little knowledge of games on mobile platforms. The website is host to information about various detrimental game design practices and takes a critical stance in evaluating their impact on the medium. Additional collateral was designed to support the initiative such as posters, stickers, and advertisements.
The afk cafe is a local coffee shop and bakery located in the downtown Minneapolis area of Minnesota. They offer specialty food and beverages as well as gaming entertainment. Focusing mainly on a 'gamer' aesthetic they provide many forms of electronic and tabletop gaming entertainment. The branding and identity is geared towards the 'gamer' and videogame enthusiast. The electric green evokes a kind of night life club aesthetic while also conveying the feeling of a digital environment.
Fancy Pants Tea Biscuits
Fancy Pants Baked Goods is a small producer of baked goods. The packaging design evokes an eighteenth century Victorian aesthetic while also taking a satirical approach to the beliefs of the period. The Fancy Pants Tea Biscuits are a more novel product, including humor as a main selling point in the design. The project included brand development and expansion into event sponsorship.
'my closet 2 you' is a small independently owned online clothing retailer for second hand women's designer clothing and accessories. This project involved developing a full brand identity for the small business.
ALIGN Fashion Show
This is an identity design for the 2014 Senior Apparel Design Fashion Show for the University of Minnesota. The goal of this design was to convey elements coming into alignment with one another. It also emphasizes the use of an achromatic color scheme and opacity to convey a sense of depth as the shapes recede or come forward in space.
This book cover was done for the acclaimed novelLes Miserables by Victor Hugo. The stories revolve around the everyday trials of several characters in the height of the French revolution. The design highlights three key concepts throughout the book. The grungy overlay of the French flag calls out to the time period and the overarching tone of the novel.
This project was inspired by the original folktales of the Brothers Grimm. Each wall hanging reflects a different moment within one of these famous tales. The silhouettes place emphasis on the characters and setting of the illustration while evoking a darker tone reminiscent of the original stories. This is carried over into the book where the illustrations are used as headers to the tales they refer to.
